THE STATUE OF LIBERTYStatue of Liberty seen from the Circle Line ferry, Manhattan, New York

My favorite work of art is the “Statue of Liberty”, because it’s a famous icon of freedom for the United States.

It is a colossal sculpture on Liberty Island in the middle of New York Harbour, in Manhattan, New York City.

The statue was designed by “Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi“in year 1886. It was a gift to the United States from the people of France.

For the United States it’s furthermore a welcoming signal to immigrants arriving from abroad.

The “Statue of Liberty” is of a robed female figure representing Liberty as the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tablet evoking the law upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, which is the July 4, 1776.

It is 93 meters high and 3.2 million tourists visit the statue every year. Since 1984 it has been a UNESCO world heritage site.

Today it is the most important building in Australia. There are 2500 events every year with millions of visitors.

In the middle of the construction work was a big trouble between the architect and the Australian government. The price for building it goes from 3,5 Million Dollar up to 100 Million Dollar. So the architect Jørn Utzon ended his work and other young architects from Australia got the chance. Unfortunately they made some little mistakes and so the acoustically effects are not that strong.

The Opera House was opened by Queen Elizabeth 2.

The Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum built with white marble, which is in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in the year 1631. The building process was started 1632. It was finished between the years 1644 and 1648. It is built on a 100*100 meters big marble platform and is 58 meters high and 56 meters wide. The Taj Mahal is one of the best examples for the Mughal architecture, a architecture that combines Persian and Indian architecture styles. It is also a prayer site for the Muslim people. Some of the architects were Abdul-Karim Ma´mur Khan, Makramat Khan and Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, an architect from Afghanistan, who is considered as the principal designer. More than 20.000 workers worked on the building. In the year 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World heritage Site. I like the Taj Mahal because the surroundings like the water look good and the building itself just looks monumental.
